"Woodlands for now and the future"

Britain’s champion for small woods
The Small Woods Association is Britain’s leading organisation in supporting and promoting the work done by the owners and carers of small woodlands.

In the April 08 issue of smallwoods we introduce a project which links woodlands that need managing with members who want to do management work. See article below

Small woods are special places which people manage for a wide range of benefits, to harvest timber, to support woodland crafts, to encourage and enjoy the wildlife, or just for recreation. There’s no maximum size, just the satisfaction of caring for woodlands now and for the future.

With members across Britain, the Small Woods Association provides information to anyone wanting to conserve, plant, manage or harvest woods and trees. Our members who may be those with a general interest, local authorities, or foresters, owners, coppice workers, botanists, ecologists and timber technologists share their knowledge and experience to encourage the enhancement of woodlands and to maximise the rewards.

We promote the cause of woodlands within local communities. We help pioneering initiatives and influence national policies, working extensively with partner agencies. The Small Woods Association also acts as a focus for new bodies aiming to improve public awareness of the importance of woodlands and to stimulate or support local timber supply chains.

March 2008: The Small Woods Association is currently designing a new website, with more information about woodland ownership, enjoyment and management. Visit us again in April for a look at the new site.

Judy Walker, Executive Director.
