Woodland Initiatives Handbook

The Woodland Initiatives Handbook was originally published in 1995 by Small Woods with funding from the Forestry Commission, to help new and existing initiatives understand what is involved when setting up and where to go for help.  Other groups such as community woodland groups have also found this handbook helpful.  Sections are currently being updated - a revised Governance and Structures chapter has now been added.

Groups and organisations working on woodland projects need a guiding hand when they begin sorting out the legal and financial processes, raising funds and keeping it all under control.  This Handbook is designed to help them establish a firm base and will be updated from time to time.

Woodland Initiatives work in a variety of areas including; encouraging sustainable woodland management, working with local communities, working with woodland and timber businesses, education and training.

Printed folders of the original Handbook are available from: Small Woods, Green Wood Centre, Station Road, Coalbrookdale, Telford TF8 7DR.  There will be a charge of £5 to cover post/packaging and handling, payable to the 'Small Woods Association'.  New sections can be downloaded and added to the folder as they become available.

Woodland Initiatives – Meeting Targets

This booklet has been produced by the Woodland Initiatives Network, which is a partnership between the Forestry Commission, Natural England, Small Woods Association and representatives of the Woodland Initiatives.

Meeting Targets highlights the work of Woodland Initiatives in England, explains the diversity of their work and illustrates how their partnership work and experience has delivered a wide variety of outputs over a number of years.  Initiatives are well positioned to meet future targets regionally, sub-regionally and nationally supporting the economy, social agendas and helping to reduce the effects of climate change.

The booklet is available as a .pdf (see below) and in hard copy from the Woodland Initiatives Coordinator, please order by email to angelapollard@smallwoods.org.uk.
