BRINGING WOODLANDS TO LIFE

Actif Woods Merthyr Tydfil

A bluebell woodland

Coed Lleol (Small Woods Wales) runs woodland health and wellbeing activity groups in Merthyr Tydfil as part of our Actif Woods Wales programme. Discover how woodlands can help breathe new life into your soul, while learning to care for the environment.

What happens at Actif Woods Merthyr Tydfil?

Our sessions are designed to offer participants the opportunity to learn new skills, gain confidence, provide a friendly environment and opportunity to make friends, spend time outdoors and protect the natural environment.

Each session can consist of multiple woodland activities, such as:

  • Campfire cooking and foraging
  • Woodland walks
  • Conservation activities
  • Woodland crafts
  • Green gym
  • Survival skills
  • Mindfulness
  • Forest bathing
  • and much more!

Why should I join?

Spending time in woodlands has been proven to lower heart rate and blood pressure, reduce stress hormone production, boost the immune system, and improve overall feelings of wellbeing. Find out more about the benefits of woodlands for health and wellbeing on our Social Forestry for Participants page.

How can I get involved?

During Covid-19, we've been working online to help people connect to nature and woodlands at home and in their local area (click here to find out how we can support you remotely).

As restrictions lift, we're gradually getting back to running our woodland activities in person. Go to our events page or on our Facebook page for updates, or get in touch

Interested in volunteering with us?

Actif Woods Wales Merthyr Tydfil are looking for volunteers who assist with woodland session delivery. Tasks would include (but not be limited to):

  • Fire lighting and tending
  • Campfire cooking
  • Helping to set up rain cover

If you have woodland skills or experience, and could volunteer could to run elements of the session, please get in touch
