Actif Woods Wrexham

Coed Lleol (Small Woods Wales) runs woodland health and wellbeing activity groups in Wrexham as part of our Actif Woods Wales programme. Discover how woodlands can help breathe new life into your soul, while learning to care for the environment.

What happens at Actif Woods Wrexham?

Actif Woods Wrexham runs a Wednesday Walking Group, which has continued through Covid-19 where possible. Get in touch with the the Actif Woods Wrexham Project Officer if you are interested in joining.

Actif Woods Wrexham also works with partner organisations to run woodland programmes for health and wellbeing. During these programmes we can offer a range of activities, such as:

  • woodland walks
  • campfire cooking
  • foraging
  • craft activities
  • conservation activities
  • mindfulness

Why should I join?

Spending time in woodlands has been proven to lower heart rate and blood pressure, reduce stress hormone production, boost the immune system, and improve overall feelings of wellbeing. Here are quotes from some of our participants:

“I have learnt new skills about woodlands. Made new friends and more time spent outdoors with my children”
(Participant, Wrexham Family Session)

“It has made me more patient with myself and with my children. Helped me to be calmer and enjoy the woodlands more. It has made me be more open to new people”
(Participant, Wrexham Family Session)

Find out more about the benefits of woodlands for health and wellbeing on our Social Forestry for Participants page.

How can I get involved?

During Covid-19, we've been working online to help people connect to nature and woodlands at home and in their local area (click here to find out how we can support you). We're working on getting back to the woods safely as soon as possible. Check back here and on our Facebook page a for updates.
