At the start of National Tree Week, the UK's largest annual tree celebration, Small Woods are thrilled to announce a new partnership with The Tree Council, the umbrella body for the tree sector with a shared mission to care for trees and the planet’s future.
The Tree Council is a national charity and the trusted voice of the tree sector, connecting organisations, persuading decision-makers and delivering action.
Chief Executive, Sara Lom, said: ‘We are delighted to be working in partnership with Small Woods, whose members represent nearly 30,000 hectares of woodland across the UK. There has never been a more important time for everyone to come together, not only to plant and care for trees to help meet the ambitious targets set down by the Climate Change Committee and government, but also to influence policy, share research and skills, and inspire the next generation of woodland owners. We look forward to strengthening our partnership, for the love of trees!’
Over the past few years, Small Woods have increased their work with The Tree Council on a range of topics, including helping to develop guidance on tree planting under Covid 19 restrictions, Ash Dieback planning, and future funding.
Ian Baker, our Chief Executive said: ‘We hope that by formalising our membership, we will be able to ensure the small woodland voice is heard both within this partnership and by those with whom The Tree Council speak more widely to. The practical voice of the woodland owner and manager has much to add to the current debate on increasing tree planting and can help to answer the key question of how to turn those trees into functioning woodlands that deliver all the economic, social and environmental benefits that a well-planned and managed woodland can.'
