New Small Woods CEO announced

We are pleased to announce the appointment of Simon James as our next Chief Executive. Simon takes over from Ian Baker, who will be stepping down in December after eight years in the role. 

Simon has a strong background in forestry. Since leaving university, he worked in various roles across the Forestry Commission, before joining Small Woods in 2022 to lead our woodland management work. A Chartered Forester, parish councillor and school governor, Simon is well equipped to lead the charity and continue our positive social, economic and environmental work. 

Ian will be stepping down to return to the consultancy work he was undertaking prior to joining us.  During his time at Small Woods the organisation has grown significantly, and Ian has made a particularly strong contribution to expanding our influence and reach as well as professionalising our business practices. We wish him well in his future endeavours .

The new arrangements will take effect in December.
