Two days of classroom sessions and woodland visits are followed by a practical skills and woodland products day.
Through managing the Fundraising and Communications team, Sue helps Small Woods raise additional income and, through our communications, ensures that we are best serving our members and supporters. She has great empathy with the aims and ideals of Small Woods and simply loves the overall ethos.
Sue has always worked in the charity sector, principally in income generation - fundraising via trusts and foundations, individual giving through single or regular donations and legacies, corporate sponsorship and events and appeals. She has also managed commercial activities such as charity shop operations, cafes and gift shops and lottery operations, including their marketing and communications functions.
She lives near the Green Wood Centre in Ironbridge and appreciates being surrounded by nature. She lives on, and sometimes during floods, almost in, the River Severn. Her favourite tree is the willow as she greatly appreciates its assistance in stabilising the riverbank.
Emma has worked in the third sector for the past 17 years, in a range of settings from homelessness prevention to substance misuse. She spent three years as a communications manager for a mental health charity before joining Small Woods in September 2021. Her main role is supporting the communications team, whilst raising and maintaining the profile of the organisation. She ensures that approaches to communication are effective and consistent, including leading on branding, communication strategy and marketing. She is also a freelance photographer and is working on updating and expanding the image library.
I-Cheng is the editor of our quarterly Smallwoods magazine and creates the members’ e-Newsletter, which goes out twice a month. In addition, she works on the communications for the Green Wood Centre site and on social media for the charity.
I-Cheng has a background in journalism and previously worked on newspapers in Lincoln, Plymouth and Dubai. She is based at our headquarters in Coalbrookdale.
Miriam (Mim) is our graphic design lead, working with I-Cheng to produce our quarterly magazine, Smallwoods, as well as producing our publicity materials, from event posters to course brochures. She is also working on updating our website.
Her previous roles have been in the sustainability sector, including at the Centre for Alternative Technology and the Centre for Sustainable Energy. She loves Beech trees.
She enjoys trail walking and wild swimming and is passionate about learning Welsh.
Julia's work at Small Woods contributes to our fundraising and income generation. She has a background in sales and marketing in the hospitality sector and as a freelance fundraiser for small charities.
