Emma has worked in the third sector for the past 17 years, in a range of settings from homelessness prevention to substance misuse. She spent three years as a communications manager for a mental health charity before joining Small Woods in September 2021. Her main role is supporting the communications team, whilst raising and maintaining the profile of the organisation. She ensures that approaches to communication are effective and consistent, including leading on branding, communication strategy and marketing. She is also a freelance photographer and is continuously updating and expanding the image library.

I-Cheng Austen - [email protected]

I-Cheng  is the editor of our quarterly Smallwoods magazine and creates the members’ e-Newsletter, which goes out twice a month. In addition, she works on the communications for the Green Wood Centre site and on social media for the charity.

I-Cheng has a background in journalism and previously worked on newspapers in Lincoln, Plymouth and Dubai. She is based at our headquarters in Coalbrookdale.

Miriam (Mim) is our graphic design lead, working with I-Cheng to produce our quarterly magazine, Smallwoods, as well as all of our publicity materials, from event posters to course brochures. She is also working on updating our website.

Her previous roles have been in the sustainability sector, including at the Centre for Alternative Technology and the Centre for Sustainable Energy. She loves Beech trees.

She enjoys trail walking and wild swimming and is passionate about learning Welsh.

Hannah Brigham - [email protected]

Hannah works closely with project staff and the communications team to promote the Woodland Wellbeing projects in Wales through social media, press and publicity.

Hannah is a passionate about the environment and campaigns for Climate Justice with UK Youth Climate Coalition in her spare time. She has worked in the charity sector for many years in diverse roles including Energy Advisor and Fundraiser.

Alongside working part time for Small Woods, Hannah works as a Swimming and Surfing Instructor. She learnt to surf in Cornwall, where she used to live, and loves to go surfing, hiking and wild swimming on the weekends. She is a big advocate for improving access to the outdoors and has volunteered with young people for The Wave Project [a surf therapy charity] and on youth expeditions in Costa Rica with Raleigh.

Her favourite tree is the Willow Tree because it reminds her of the one in her local park growing up.

Julia's work at Small Woods contributes to our fundraising and income generation. She has a background in sales and marketing in the hospitality sector and as a freelance fundraiser for small charities.
