Research has consistently shown that spending time in nature reduces stress, boosts mood, and promotes overall health and wellbeing, which has been the focus of 'Get Ready for Xmas the Woodland Way' that has have been running in NPT and Swansea this December.
Organised by our project officer Gemma, these free sessions are provided for families with children accessing support from children and family services, or not attending full-time mainstream school. Activities so far have included making willow stars, natural festive crafts, child led play activities, with non-alcoholic mulled wine and mince pies, to keep the energy levels up. Not only did these sessions encourage everyone who attended to embrace the simple pleasures of the festive season, but they also fostered greater appreciation for nature - even in winter!
The feedback we have received from participants has been overwhelmingly positive, with everyone grateful for the opportunity to disconnect from technology and reconnect with nature and one another.
‘Just wanted to say thank you for a fabulous afternoon up the Gnoll. The girls loved it and the twins were in their element!! It was their first proper outdoor woodland experience!’
‘Get Ready for Xmas the Woodland Way’ sessions funded by the Regional Integrated Fund of West Glamorgan Health Board.
