Do you own or work in small woodlands; are they undermanaged or neglected, and would you like to make better use of them?

Do you own or lease ancient woodlands but need more information about managing them?

The Woodland Trust Scotland, in association with the Small Woods Association and Argyll Smallwoods Cooperative invite you to a free demonstration event to discuss woodland restoration in practice in Scotland, and to see a wide range of low impact solutions for management.

  • See machinery and equipment that are designed to work in woodlands that are small, in need of some management, or hard-to access.
  • Talk to experts to find out how to get the most from this equipment.

What will the day cover?

The event starts with a short introduction at our venue-  Fernoch Farm, followed by a range of demonstrations in oak woodland adjacent to the farm using small scale extraction equipment working in a woodland setting. Demonstrations include a range of extraction methods – horse and iron horse logging and an Alstor, and primary processing equipment including three types of sawmill and a woodfuel processor. We will also examine the commercial viability of bringing small and sensitive woodlands into management, from the standing timber to product.

Who would find this useful?

This will be particularly relevant to owners who would like to manage their own woodlands and forestry businesses involved in harvesting and extracting in smaller and potentially more sensitive woods..

This event is free to attend and refreshments and lunch will be provided however numbers are limited so early booking is recommended.
