The course:
Linocut printing is a traditional technique and artistic process that can be traced back as far as the 1800s, when it was used for creating wallpaper.
Designs are carved into a sheet of linoleum, and this raised surface is then inked and pressed onto paper or fabric to create a unique and striking print. The process is creative, mindful and thoroughly absorbing and you will leave with a two layer lino cut to use at home.
You will learn:
- how a linocut print is produced
- how to create your own autumnal leaf design
- how to safely use a variety of tools
- different methods of pressing
Your tutor
Caroline Nettleford spent over 25 years teaching young people creative arts, and is always looking to develop creativity at every opportunity. Her printmaking journey began after leaving classroom nearly three years ago, when a family member and experienced printmaker introduced her to the process. She was soon completely hooked, spending hours every day practising and learning everything she could!
Caroline now sells her prints at art trails and fairs and her work is also stocked by a range of local businesses. After so many customers asking about workshops, she decided to branch out and loves to share the joy of printmaking with people of all ages.
"For me, printmaking gives me the opportunity to explore the world around me through print. I have a passion for portraying nature, in particular birds. My prints often depict my personal encounters with wildlife… I have found natural beauty can be found all around us, wherever we live, if we just take time to notice it.
Lino printing in particular has become a real passion, carving away lino using hand tools to slowly bring my ideas to life is such a mindful time for me. I get completely lost in the moment! I roll on vibrant inks and squeeze them through the hand press, peel back the paper and reveal my image… pure magic!"
Caroline will be bringing along a range of her work for inspiration, and to purchase.
