Learn how to make a simple framed hurdle using ash or chestnut frame and hazel weavers. Framed hurdles make attractive screens for wheelie bins and compost areas. These hurdles can use lower grade but more easily available materials.

You will learn:

  • Selecting suitable wood
  • Split and cleave wood suitable for a frame
  • Mortise and Tenon joint
  • Weaving with hazel using round and split wood

Your tutor will be Alistair Hayhurst.

Covid-19 and Courses

The Green Wood Centre has worked tirelessly to ensure that staff & visitors are entering a COVID safe environment. SWA have a duty of care to participants, staff, trainees, volunteers, etc. We ask that all tutors and participants respect the measures stated regardless of their personal views, there will be an induction by your course tutor on arrival.

In the event that a course has to be cancelled due to Covid-19, a full refund will be provided and we will suggest keeping an eye on the website and re-booking once the course has become available again.

Our experience:

Small Woods use only experienced professionals and woodland practitioners as tutors. We have more than 20 years’ experience of delivering courses and training and a reputation for high quality teaching and professionalism.

Small Woods courses are suitable for all levels of experience and ability and we keep course numbers low. The physical nature and/or woodland location of some courses may make them difficult for people with mobility problems. We do, however, have many years’ experience in enabling all groups to attend courses and will make every effort to ensure a satisfying experience for all.
